image ready mini movies

Hi everyone. Im trying to learn how to make mini movie icons in image ready because I was told the quality can be made better in that as opposed to Animation shop.

My problem is I cannot figure out how to drag the movie animation onto the base icon. Can someone show me a tutorial somewhere on how to make them in image ready? I looked in the memories and didnt seen any complete tutorial type things. ^^ Thankyou!!

To make a clip:

I open the mpg in IR and select the frames I want to use.

I try to keep it under 40 frames. 45 if I'm lucky. Delete the extra frames. Then make the clip smaller than 35K. Close it and go on below.

If you already have the clip...

1. I just open the gif and make the clip under 35K, then close it to get rid of the excess.

2. Then open it and link the layers all together. This keeps the animation clip together.

3. Copy and paste a base and drag it to the bottom of the layers.

Then pretty it up your way.

I hope you understand whatever I just said! And hopefully this is helpful!

Sorry, forgot a step!!

After linking all the layers together, click Image/ Canvas Size, type in 100 (tab) 100. Relative is unchecked. Hit OK. Then go to your base, make sure your toolbar is on Marquee tool and select all (ctrl + A).

Then go to your icon you just canvased to 100x100. Paste it there (ctrl + V). And look to the Layers window and drag the base all the way to the bottom of the layers so the animation is shown and on top.

I learned from the best XD
What I do:

I open the mpg in IR and then hit hold down shift and move about the arrows until you find the section you want animated, and then let go of shift.

I try to keep it under 40 frames.

If you already have the clip...

1. I just open the gif and make the clip under 35K, then close it to get rid of the excess.

2. Then open it and link the layers all together. This keeps the animation clip together. On the layers window, -lets say, layer 35 is the last, so then you would make a dublicate of it and drag it so tis before layer 1. Then with your first frame highlighted and shown in the orginal window, link all the layers together in the layer window.

Then click on Image and then Canvas size and make the width and height, 100x100.

3. Copy and paste a base and drag it to the bottom of the layers. using the marquee tool, section all of the base image. and copy it. Then moving o'er to your Mini movie animation, paste the base picture onto of the animation.
From here, move the base picture in your Layers Window all the way down, before all frames.
{You should now see the mini movie animation in front of the base} Always remember to have frame 1 highlighted at all times

Then pretty it up your way. Once you've gotten everydone, now you can add text and what not.
Always remember, since your frames are linked at this point, whatever you do to the very first frame will affect the others.

Some of the files are corrupted I guess. All my mpg works, the mpegs doesn't but I take the e out and it works from there, well most of the time. I just open the folder and drag it onto IR or double click on IR to open.

Me too. I just found that it only does that when I try to open an MPG. It opens correctly when I use a MOV. O.o

i dont know if this is the appropriate place to ask this...but i've added animated movies to icons using this tutorial, which is GREAT by the way, but i find the the resulting quality is very poor compared to the jpg base i added the animation to. i've seen a lot of animated icons with great quality, so i'm wondering if it's something i've missed, or if it's just the program? thanks so much!
