Translatable?Yes, to a point. You could skip the selective color step in this icon and the outcome wouldn't be affected too much.

crop and sharpen your image. mine is of dean winchester from Supernatural 4x11.

duplicate base three times and set the first two duplicates to screen, the third to soft light and desaturate. (opacity 100% on all)

layer -> new adjustment layer -> color balance (opacity 100%)
Shadows: 0 | 0 | 0
Midtones: 0 | -18 | -44
Highlights: 0 | 0 | 0

add this texture, resize to 300 px and set it to hard light. (opacity 20%)

using a 16 px hard brush in white drag your brush over the lightest parts of the icon.

filter -> blur -> gaussian blur (radius 3.0 pixels) and hit ctrl+f until you get the desired effect.

duplicate base, drag to the top and set to soft light. desaturate. (opacity 30%)

layer -> new fill layer -> solid color, fill with c47cb2 and set to soft light (opacity 70%)

layer -> new fill layer -> solid color, fill with fcf8df and set to multiply (opacity 100%)

layer -> new adjustment layer -> gradient map, black and white, set to soft light (opacity 42%)

add more light to the icon by repeating steps 7 and 8, erase as needed.

ctrl+alt+shift+e, filter -> sharpen -> sharpen (opacity 21%)

add a grungy grid brush in white (check my resources for where to get those) on the lightest parts of the icon. one click should do it.

image -> adjustments -> invert, set to soft light (opacity 100%)

flatten and save. you're done!
