Photoshop CS3, not translatable (selective coloring)

STEP 1 Crop your base. Here's mine.

STEP 2 Duplicate image, set to SOFT LIGHT at OPACITY 30%. This will give it more contrast. Because it's a little too dark now, I duplicate the image again, and set to SCREEN at OPACITY 30%. This will give it a little more brightness. You will need to adjust depending on your image.

normal->soft light->screen

STEP 3 Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Selective Color
This step will give the image a yellowish and slight greenish color.

SELECTIVE COLOR
Reds -100, -40, +15, 0
Yellows +40, -70, -70, 0
Cyans -30, +30, +35, 0
Blues -100, -40, +50, 0
Whites -15, 0, 80, 0
Neutrals -35, -20, -5, 0

STEP 4 Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Curves
This step will give it a rather muted look, and will slightly bring out more reds and blues in the image.

CURVES
RGB
point 1 [Output 208, Input 190]
point 2 [Output 164, Input 146]
point 3 [Output 100, Input 82]

RED
point 1 [Output 203, Input 212]
point 2 [Output 191, Input 184]
point 3 [Output 101, Input 96]

GREEN
point 1 [Output 197, Input 206]
point 2 [Output 155, Input 162]
point 3 [Output 81, Input 75]

BLUE
point 1 [Output 209, Input 191]
point 2 [Output 172, Input 161]
point 3 [Output 103, Input 108]
point 4 [Output 50, Input 44]

STEP 5 Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Color Balance
Generally, this step will replace a major portion of yellow with blue/cyan.

COLOR BALANCE
Midtones -25, 0, +50
Shadows -15, 0, 0

STEP 6 Layer -> New Fill Layer -> Solid Color
This step will give a more muted look, with slight brownish in the darker parts, and light dull blue in white areas.

Fill #410c0c (kidney bean), set blending mode to EXCLUSION with OPACITY 45%

STEP 7 Layer -> New Adjustment Layer -> Channel Mixer
Now, I personally don't like too much dull blueness to it, I'll perform this step to clear them up a little.

CHANNEL MIXER
Red +100, +10, +4, 0
Green +5, +100, -1, 0
Blue -9, +16, +97, 0

OPTIONAL Now, if you play around with the setting, you can get a more suitable coloring for some images. This sushi and Kim Bum icons stop at STEP 4.
