Jagged edges

I'm using PSCS4. While using the pen tool to cut images, i realise that the cut out images appear to have some jagged edges whenever they are cut out instead of being smoothly cut out. Anyone has any idea why is that so? it doesn't occur when i use shapes (Eg. Rectangle Marquee tool) to cut out the shapes, it turns out to be smooth. The only problem occurs with pen tool. Help please!

Thanks so much in advance! :)

You probably have a pencil brush selected instead of the soft brush tool when using the Pen tool...

I use PSE9, but I get those jagged edges sometimes, too. In my experience, it's been a combination of picture quality and how accurate I'm able to crop the particular image.

In any case, I just grab the blur tool and set it to be relatively tiny. Anywhere from 1 to 3 taps on those edges smooths them out and doesn't noticeably damage the picture quality. An example would be the header on my journal if you'd like to see how it comes out.
