Star Wars - ROTS tutorial :)

Hey everyone! Today you'll be learning how to make the following icon in PSP8 (could easily translate in other programs) Image hosted by Photobucket.com

First I choose my pictures from here http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&cf=pstills&id=1808406061 and then crop like this on a 400x400 creamy background like this:

Now I duplicate >> Hue and Saturation >> Hue/Saturation/Lightness >> Hue: -180 Lightness: 0 Saturation 0.
I set my blend mode to softlight and I merge my layers.

I sharpen the image add some scribles and splats. Srcibles are from here and you can find some splats here

I also add some borders...but I have no idea where I got my borders from. I'm still looking into that. I really think I got them from teh_indy. I suggest going http://livejournal.com/icon_extras for some.

This is what I have now :)

Now I resize/crop into 100 and I sharpen the icon.

Now I add this light texture (I got them from icon_textures) and set it lighten.

I add my text with Arial and I write Hero Falls. I'm done. Please do not take the bigger graphic. You may use the icon though.

Here are the borders I used >> save >> cut them out >> and to your collection >> I don't remember where I got them from and I've looked in all of my bookmarks- i haven't had time to go through a big search yet but I'm looking into it :). I thought some of you would have had your own border brushes from somewhere else.

Not just handy for icons, but good for wallpaper! I was wanting to branch out a little now that I understand layers and opacity and blend modes. I will try this out on dozens of wallpapers, I can assure you :) THANK YOU!

oh yes! very handy for layouts and wallpapers as well :) i've also used other kinds of brushes and textures and i am very satisfied with the results :)
May. 7th, 2005 12:06 am (UTC)
could you please look into those brushes. its very bad to use them in a tutorial and not put who made them... and no teh_indy didn't make them.
May. 7th, 2005 05:54 am (UTC)
In their defence, they did say they were looking into them, and what better way to find out the maker of a brush that you want to credit than by putting it somewhere where someone who knows will see them?

It's not exactly as if they said they just didn't want to credit the maker.

Lovely, lovely icon. But I do wish you knew where the border came from. It's just a long line brush stamped on each side, right? Why can't I find any like that? I looked at both teh_indy and icon_extras.

hmm well i swear i thought it was from teh_indy but i stamped it out for you.

I love the icon, and this tutorial is great!!! *hugs you* mmmm star wars...

If indeed you created those borders by stamping one shortish brush into border-sized boxes, then I'm quite sure it's one of inxsomniax's brushes. Brush set 27, I believe. :)

Nice icon, btw. :D *hugs Obi-Wan*

Awesome tutorial! I changed some stuff around a bit and came up with this. *points up*

BTW, I'm pretty sure those border lines are from inxsomniax as well.
