Pixel Fonts Rendering Improperly

I'm having a lot of issues suddenly with my pixel fonts and how they render. They come out misshaped and very wonky. My anti-alias is off - and I've tried resetting the resolution and neither seems to help. (If need be I can provide an example, just not right this second.) I've read through the memories trying to find the answer and the only thing I can seem to figure might be the problem is having "faux bold" enabled. (Whatever that is!) Which I discovered here in this thread, but as I use PSP8 and have no clue what the heck this option is, I can't figure out how to turn it off either. Any help would be greatly appreciated, or if you may know of some other reason my fonts aren't working, that'd be grand as well.

Thank you all in advance.

EDIT: Here's an example of what I'm not explaining well:

See how the T and the sides and tops of letters are very wide and almost filled in - yet some parts of the letters are actually right. This only happens with the pixel fonts - and it's not always the top, sometimes it's the bottom or the's very odd.

(EDIT #2: Thanks to whiterage for finding the solution!)

Convert text to shape

How does one convert text into the shape on your picture? I know you go to Layer >> Type >> Convert to Shape but then the text just ends up looking funny. I think there's more to it than that. Help? I use PS7.
