Dashed lines

I have a question...how would you go about making dashed lines on an icon? Like in many icons, they have dotted lines, but how would you make a line replacing the dots with dashes? I hope that makes sense! =)

ETA: Yay! Problem solved. =)

Sepia-Toning Images

Sepia Toning Images in Photoshop: A few ways to do it.

Today we're going to learn the various ways of sepia-toning an image without using any extra features, just the basic tools of the trade: Gradients, Gradient Maps and other steps mentioned in my previous tutorial on black and white images from colour which can be found here. You will need a basic grasp of the tools in photoshop, and I shall try and explain as easily and clearly as possible. However, this is not a beginner-friendly tutorial, and I will not answer questions such as where do I find my gradient pallette.

A Guide to Making Good Bases

I've thrown together a guide for making good bases - all stuff that has been said before many times and many ways, but it bears repeating. This is really meant for those people who have poked around their program of choice and know the tools somewhat, but now want to put that to use in achieving a higher level of icon skill. This was made in PSP9, but is totally and completely translatable. It is more of a style guide than anything else.

Invisible backgrounds

I need some help please.

I use PSPX and I am trying to make an icon but my problem is that I need to erase part of the background to the icon.

I am doing a Polaroid icon but there is extra space to the side of the outside of the polaroid and I want to get rid of it, I've tred deleting it so it's chequered but when I save it it's still there as white.

I have looked through the memories and I can't find anything that helps but is there a way to get that white part to go please?

Optimization

I'm really sorry for reasking this because I know it's been asked a million times, but I never had the problem up until now.
But, when using Jasc Animation Shop 3, is there a way where you can stop an icon from being optimized when you save it? I really don't like the overly-pixely look.

(no subject)

hi,

i am trying to make a banner, and every time I try to add text, I click on new layer and when i use the text tool, the text is too small to show up. Once i change the size of the font to 1296, then it show up a little but it's not as big as i need it to be. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?

Thanks!

Cillian Murphy tutorial

G'day.
I've been wanting to write a tute for a while, and I'm finally going to give it a go. This is mainly pulling together hints I've picked up from other tutes (mentioned below) and using bases as textures. If it's shite then feel free to throw virtual tomatoes at me. ^__^   Oh, and just so you know what you're getting in to, we're going from this screencap to this icon. And I'm using PSP 9.

Mod Stuff

Hi gang!

I missed the milestone, but sometime in the last month we hit 10,000 members. Yes, you're reading correctly: that's TEN THOUSAND. That's a whole hell of a lot. Thank you all for making this community what it is.

Since I'm posting, just a few reminders to you all:

The userinfo/rules and community main page are full of useful information. Please, please, please check them out before you post. It's been pretty good around here lately, but I'd say on average I delete 2-3 posts a day (and I don't know how many aquamarcia finds before I get to them), and I don't like doing that. So don't make me need to. ;)

Also, if I don't respond to your affiliation request immediately, don't hound me. I admit that sometimes it gets to be a couple of months before I update the list, but truth be told that's kind of the "application" in my mind: if the journal or community is still around a month or two later, it's worth linking and not just a one-week thing I'll have to remove again. I do eventually get to each and every last one of them (though LJ recently barfed about a half-dozen backed-up requests into my inbox), but if you e-mail me twice a week about your community I guarantee I'll get petty and perhaps not want to list you from spite. Don't worry; I won't forget you if your journal/community qualifies. :)

I hope you all had happy and safe New Year's celebrations, and I look forward to reading all your great questions and answers in 2006.
