Disappearing patterns.

Okay. I use PS7, and occasionally when I load it it decides to delete my patterns. It really pissed me off the last time it did this, because I just went on a pattern-searching-spree and had a ton of them (it didn't bother me because I didn't have many before).

Ha, this is what I get for procrastinating about backing up my files.

Anyway, would anyone happen to know why it does this? I really want to see what I can do to fix it. It doesn't happen often, and when the program loads it says something about configuring colors. I clicked no this time because last time I clicked yes.. both times my patterns were erased, but not entirely. It just converts back to the ones I installed at the verrryyy beginning of when I started with photoshop. They're nearly useless... I just thought they were pretty then. =P

If anyone knows what I'm talking about (I know it's kind of confusing, but that's what happens).. thanks. :)

Using Texture Bases

I came across these two sets of icon texture bases (by sibelle_art) and after downloading them and attempting to use them, I realized that I didn't know how to use them correctly. I tried setting the blending mode to soft light, overlay, hard light, screen, etc, but it never looks right (I'm using PS7, by the way).

I was wondering if someone knew of or would be willing to create a tutorial on something like this as I'm absolutely dying to use these texture bases. Thank you!

Changing the background colour

I have looked through the memories and couldn't find anything to help me and I use PSPX.

My question is: Is there a relatively easy way to change the background colour of icons? For example if you use an image from a photoshoot and the background is say black, is there an easy way for me to change it to say white or another colour please?

Thanks in advance for any help.

PS Elements 4.0

=_= I looked in the memories, but maybe I missed it.

I'm trying to do something so easy, yet it's so hard. I'm trying to make an animated icon that gradually gets darker, with different text on each layer. But when I add a new layer, and change it to multiply, the text from the first layer shows through as well. Can someone please explain how to do this correctly?

I figured it out. I had to do each different layer in different boxes, multiply them there and flatten the image. Then I was able to put them on the base of my icon, and the text would appear, but the background was darker.
