More vibrant, "sunny" icons?

I know this will probably be some sort of "vibrant color" tutorial... but I'm posting anyway.

I love these icons: here. I'm particularly attached to numbers 27, 29, and 44, though all of them are beautiful.

Anyway, I found one tutorial for more vibrant colors when I went back a couple of pages and attempted an icon that didn't come out so hot. I'd really love something that could come about as close as you could get to those icons. They really look very vibrant and crisp compared to the icon I made with the other tutorial.

I have PSP 7 and PS 7, but I'm more experienced with PSP 7. I'm sure I could translate easily, though.

Any help is much appreciated, of course, as I know something similar to this has probably been posted a few time before.

Primary Scratch Settings...?

I'm sorry if this isn't the place for this, but I'm having a mini-freak out.

My computer had a mini crash, and lost all it's settings and whatnot, and when I just tried getting into Photoshop (7.0 if it matters), a window popped up about "Windows' Primary Scratch Settings" or something to that affect. Honestly, I didn't really think anything of it, and didn't read it all the way through, and clicked okay, and now it won't open. I'll open it, it'll go to it says "Initializing" and then close out of it itself.

Can someone please help me fix this? I'll be forever grateful to you.

Solved. Thanks aquamarcia

Hey guys I'm having trouble with making icons in Paintshop Pro 9.0 lately... I'm trying to make an icon and every time i resize the picture it looks grainy and weird... does anyone know PSP pretty well that can help me try to figure this out??? ive always resized the same way by resizing the pixels instead of going by percent. over the past week ive even tried doing it the percent way but both types still give me the same look. if you have any advice even if its a little bit i would love to hear it!

.... this is what it looks like when i make an icon... does anyone know what could be causing this??? any help is appreciated. thanks a lot!!!

edit:: heres a better ex. of the icon

2nd edit:: thanks guys for alllll your help!! everything is finally back to normal =)

This is the best place I can think of to ask this.

Alright, so I've got an icon journal, just started it, going alright as far as I can see. Then my buddies tell me that they can't see most of my icons, and I figure out that apparently, IE does not like *.png files. Any clue on why this is? And if there's any way to remedy it, other than saving everything as evil *.jpg files? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ok people...help me out?
Name some free software that can be used for screencapping? I had a program, recommended by someone here, that I used for screencapping, and somehow I lost it. Now I can't even remember the name of it!
Someone? Anyone??

Old film feel icons

How do I get an image to look like this?

I know old movies have that sort of fading/brightening variation on them naturally, but was wondering how to do this simply in Photoshop/ImagereadyCS. I'm also a bit of a dummy with pasting transparent layers in CS, the sequencing makes little sense compared to that of Animation shop...

Thanks in advance,

Colour change upon saving

Howdy folks,

I have a bit of a problem with Photoshop CS2. I've checked the memories fairly thoroughly, but couldn't find anything. Lately, when I try to save my icons (usually PNG24 format), the colours change. They get darker, and spoil the icon. It is the same whatever format I try and save in. Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Several general and PSP8 questions

Right. Well. I am embarking upon one of those "make 100 icons!" thingers, and I'm in need of some serious guidance. Therefore, the massive question post of DOOM.

I use PSP8, so that's where most of my questions are coming from, but there are a few generals ones too.

Thanks much!

I'm using Adobe Photoshop CS 08.0 and was wondering how to make rounded edges/corners on images (headers/icons/etc). I know this was asked maybe a year or so ago and I'm not about to dig that far back to find what the answer was. If someone could kindly remind me, that'd be groovy. I haven't used rounded edges/corners in eons, so I sorta forgot.

Hooray for the forgetful and photoshop savvy! XD

Hello

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has a tutorial to make vector arts. Could it be really descriptive and not those hard to understand ones?
Thank you very much!

Header Tutorial

Ok, I figured that because there aren’t enough header tutorials out there … I would do one!! ^_^ Warning – very in-depth, but you’ll need a fairly good understanding of Photoshop to understand what I'm talking about. And I have trouble with explaining things … ^^ so if you get lost at all, feel free to ask! I’ll be happy to explain it to you. :D

We’ll be making this using Photoshop 7 (though I’m sure it’s easily translated)

Oh, and I should also add that you should experiment with the textures and stuff that you have. copying straight from my tutorial would be very boring now wouldn't it?! and if you want to show me what you made with this tutorial, i would love to see!! ^_^

Hey guys!
When I make icons, they always tend to be more than 40 kb and it pretty annoying cause I wanna post them in communities but then ppl cant use them. Even if I have only like 1 texture and 1 filled layer, this happens.
so any idea what I can do to reduce the kbs?
If it matters then I use Ps Cs2

beginners PSP 7, 8 and 9

Introduction to layers and basic steps in PSP8 for beginners. Many things here apply for PSP7 and 9 as well.

click...

This is a guide I made for beginners. It doesn't tell you EVERYTHING...just the basic things, like how to sharpen, how to add and work with layers, resize, crop, blur, brighten and desaturate. It also talks about SOME tools...the ones most often used in icon making. Furthermore, it gives examples of some layer effects

Aqua Alexis With Curves

Go from this to .

This tutorial was created with Photoshop CS and I am not sure how it will translate into Paintshop Pro. It includes masks and curves, but in a very basic manner. I used the same method to make a banner and the only additional step was blending two similar images together (I overlapped them and trimmed off the excess with a feathered lasso tool).
