Exclusion and...?

I know this is something I know how to do, I just can't remember. How would I go about making this kind of coloration in an icon?

I'm assuming there's an exclusion layer in there, but I don't know how to go about achieving the clarity and particular hue of the icon.

I couldn't find anything on this and I wasn't really sure if I could post this here, so if this is the wrong place, please tell me and I'll delete the entry.

Anyhoo, I downloaded the KH intro to make some more icons for my icon post; I'm playing it in WMP and taking screenshots, well..one screenshot atm. :S But I've taken one and pasted it in photoshop, but the thing is, I'm trying to cut out the main picture of Sora; and get rid of the whole WMP background. But it's acting as if there's two layers. Let me try to describe this...

If I zoom out, you can't see Sora at all - if I zoom in, he starts to move into the picture. If I click move and move it all around, it's only moving the windows media player stuff and then hiding Sora, but if I move it like all of the screen, sora disappears anyway. It's really frustrating, cause I really don't get what's going on.

Also, if I zoom in and select Sora and then copy/cut it into a new document, it turns out as just like a black block. Except just after another try, it got the picture and somehow got a huge black block that I didn't select on the side (no idea), and I move that but..I can't even describe it. I just put it into a bigger document and moved it again, and as I move it around it gets more of the actual screenshot into it, and as I move it down it gets rid of Sora and gets the sea in the image instead. It's acting as if it's still the full screenshot..but..REALLY messed up. I'm probably not making sense, but if anyone actually knows what I mean and can help I'd love you forever. *cough*

Thanks.

I've looked in the memories, since I once found the answer to my problem there, but now that I've looked back ... I can't find it.

Here's the deal. Comp crashed, blablabla, was forced to install the trial version of Photoshop CS2, but unfortunately, when I've unzipped the installed fonts into the default font folder, they don't show up in CS2. I've done the usual, re-install the fonts, clicked on the fonts and started up CS2 after doing that, even rebooted ... and the fonts still do not show up, although they are in the folder.

Anyone knows what to do?

Edit: Problem solved. If your fonts folder is acting like a "normal" folder, thus not giving you the option to install a new font, you should either 1) download and run tweak UI, which gives you an option to repair your fonts folder, or 2) restore your system.

I'm really sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't find it in the memories...

How do you apply a layer mask in Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0? I can't seem to find it.

Is there an alternative for layer mask in Elements?

Your help would be appreciated soooo much! Thanks!

This is a requested tutorial not really a formal one so if you have any questions or something is unclear just ask. Not to hard pretty much a beginner tutorial unless you are thoroughly frightened by curves. Program used Photoshop CS.

TUTORIAL: Brilliant coloring using hard light and luminance layers

I've got a lot of questions about how I get my vibrant, clean coloring style, so I decided to make a tutorial for those who would like to see how it's done. NOTE: This style looks geat on both real photos and anime/cartoon screenshots.

Today, we'll be going from this:  to this:  using PSP8 in 7-8 steps.
Difficulty: Basic knowledge of blending options and the effects brower
Transferability: I'm almost 100% sure this can be transfered to Photoshop

Okay, have been looking for brushes/a method on how to create the line of dots in this icon?

Is there anywhere I could get this as a brush? Or a method on how to create it? I use Photoshop CS mostly.

Thanks!
