For ages, I couldn't work out how people got special pretty fluorescent Christmas light things on their icons. I looked EVERYWHERE. Anyway, I was messing about with brushes on PSP and setting them to light layer opacity settings (Lighten, Screen, Overlay & Soft Light)** and realised that if I made circle brushes, I'd get the effects I wanted. To show what I'm talking about, I've made some examples via PSP7 (I think I'm the only person in the WORLD who bought a copy! Nobody makes brushes or gradients for it!!) and am posting them here :)

I am able to translate a lot of icon tutorials with it. So far it's been pretty good. But when it comes to the black and white with colors. I'm just at a lost.
Any tips would be highly appreciated.

Got a question about working with black and white and bringing colour into it. I have PS 7.0 and i was just wondering if i could get some tips. I've seen some icons before that are mainly black and white but will have a glow of red etc and i would love to know how to do it.
Also, whilst looking through the tutorials, alot of people say put a layer or a gradient under your base layer and change it from there- could somebody explain to me how you do it?

I'm using PSP 9. I noticed that with this icon, when you zoom in, on it at any size the actual picture may not be clear but the font is perfect. I've tried to create something similar two way, I used a hi-res image, and used the font at a very large size and then resize the entire image and I've also just resized the image then used the font at a small size, both ways leave me with a font that is blurry. Can anyone tell me what I should do? I'd really appreciate it.
