John Sheppard Tutorial - PSP8

Well, here goes nothin’. This is my very first tutorial, and I wasn’t sure I ever wanted to even try one, because they seem like they take ages, and can be really stressful, but I thought I’d give it a try after I was playing with some simple settings and ideas, and it made a nice icon. So I’m sharing the idea, for others to try and whatever ^_^

We’re going from:
in eight easy steps, with no curves or adjustment layers

Hi everyone..I just got done scanning the mems here and i didn't see anything on how to do this. I did ask the maker of the icon but no response. what i was wondering is how they got the effect of the text appearing one letter at a time?

I use PSP 8 and Animation Shop 3 And The GIMP if that helps. I do have Photoshop 7.0 and Image Ready but IR hates me.
Thanks so much...
AVPM Totally awesome

Background issues

How do I take a background off of a picture using Photoshop CS2?

For example, if I wanted to take these two pictures (I just picked two random pictures out of my photobucket to use as examples.):

But only wanted the people from each (the heads, without the backgrounds) So that I could put them onto...some other background, would that be possible? If so, how do I do it?

Using Preset Shapes as Masks

This was a requested tutorial.  Someone wanted to know the easy way to make circles and stuff in them like I did in a Darcy and Elizabeth Pride and Prejudice Set.

Using different pictures obviously, I made a tutorial for it.  It's very simple and the tutorial is for Paint Shop Pro (any version).  I don't know if it will translate to Photoshop or not but oh well.

Problem with Brushes- Program Error

I've checked the memories and can't find anything that would help me fix my problem.

Everytime I click to use my brush or eraser and try and draw on the screen it comes up with an error that says "Could not complete your request because of a program error". This only happens when I'm trying to do something on a layer I've created. If I paste a layer or duplicate a layer I already have I can use the brush. However if I make a new layer and try to use a brush the error comes up. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

ETA: I'm using Photoshop CS.

ETA: It's fixed. Thanks aquamarcia!!
