Hi everyone! This is my first time posting. I hope to add some tutorials for you soon, but I'll get straight to the point. I read through the memories, and while there is some information on textures, the problem I'm having specifically deals with light textures I believe.

It looks like both of these icons use some sort of light texture or light technique, but when I use the light textures I downloaded they don't turn out looking like that. What I do is after I have my icon cropped/sized the way I want it, I add a new layer and fill the texture in with the paint bucket tool. Then I set the layer to either screen or soft light and adjust the opacity as desired, but it still doesn't turn out with quite the intense light that these icons have (behind the text in both icons). Is there another technique I should use, or do I want to try to find other light textures? And if so, where should I look?

By the way, I use Paint Shop Pro 7, but I also have Photoshop Elements 5.0. This problem has been bothering me for a while now. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Question:

Hi everyone =) I just recently switched from using PSP8 to PS7 (selective colouring was tempting), but I'm a little confused about something: When you use selective colouring, at the bottom where it says Method: []Relative []Absolute, which one do you usually keep checked off?

Thank you for all help =)

Improving Quality

I've looked through the mems and can't find anything to help. I have a batch of lovely Fantasia screen caps, and they're a nice size, but because of the age of the film it's not the best when it comes to quality. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on improving them?

photoshop help

hey! we got windows Vista a few days ago and I had to re-install Photoshop CS, but now a few things aren't working, e.g. I can't change the fonts, it looks like this:

at 1 and 2 I don't get a drop down menu when I click there, only 3 works... and I have similar problems with most other tools, somehow only a few options from that top menu work, but the ones I actually need don't (something that's driving me crazy: the soft edge, which I use quite often, I have to chose over select > soft edge AFTER I already have a selection, I can't do it in the top menu before anymore...)

I don't know if it's because PS not entirely compatible with Vista or if I just have to change something in the PS settings...

Does anyone know what might be the problem? Thanks in advance!

I'm having i bit of a problem with the hair on some icons-when i rezise some pictures the hair looks like its been put into tiny braids. For example on this icon the hair goes a bit funky when resized.(okay, the rest of it doesn't look too great when resized, but it was the best example i could find, and it still happens when the rest of the icon looks fine)is there any way to stop this sing psp 9?

Okay. So I'm bored tonight and, since I'm watching The Simpsons anyway, I figured I'd do some capping. Maybe make some icons.

Anyway, the episodes I'm watching are downloaded ones, and so they're avi files. When I press the hotkey in VLC to take a screencap, the resulting cap is only 320x240. My question is: Is this even big enough to work with for icon purposes? I only ask because, so many times in screencap communities, I see these great big screencaps, and mine feel -- inadequate. *lol*

So...if anyone could answer that question for me (to reassure me, if nothing else!) I'd be grateful. Thanks!
