Royalty Icon Tutorial
go from this:
I used Photoshop CS2, but it's easily translatable.
No Selective Colour/Curves.
Warning: Image Heavy.
It looks like both of these icons use some sort of light texture or light technique, but when I use the light textures I downloaded they don't turn out looking like that. What I do is after I have my icon cropped/sized the way I want it, I add a new layer and fill the texture in with the paint bucket tool. Then I set the layer to either screen or soft light and adjust the opacity as desired, but it still doesn't turn out with quite the intense light that these icons have (behind the text in both icons). Is there another technique I should use, or do I want to try to find other light textures? And if so, where should I look?
By the way, I use Paint Shop Pro 7, but I also have Photoshop Elements 5.0. This problem has been bothering me for a while now. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
Thank you for all help =)
Edit: Thank you for the fast answers, everyone! =)
Made with PSP8, can be translated to most other softwares.

I have PS 7.
Program : Photoshop CS 2, but I should imagine transferable.
The easy way to make icons like this :
follow the fake cut.
I am using this picture for an English assignment and it is perfect except that it is abit too blurry/fuzzy. Is there anyway to make the picture clearer?
Tutorial here at imbrokenicons
made in paint shop pro 7 using curves and levels. quite simple :D

at 1 and 2 I don't get a drop down menu when I click there, only 3 works... and I have similar problems with most other tools, somehow only a few options from that top menu work, but the ones I actually need don't (something that's driving me crazy: the soft edge, which I use quite often, I have to chose over select > soft edge AFTER I already have a selection, I can't do it in the top menu before anymore...)
I don't know if it's because PS not entirely compatible with Vista or if I just have to change something in the PS settings...
Does anyone know what might be the problem? Thanks in advance!
Involves: Selective Colouring, Easy Curves (only the RGB channel)
Translatable? No, sorry.
Anyway, the episodes I'm watching are downloaded ones, and so they're avi files. When I press the hotkey in VLC to take a screencap, the resulting cap is only 320x240. My question is: Is this even big enough to work with for icon purposes? I only ask because, so many times in screencap communities, I see these great big screencaps, and mine feel -- inadequate. *lol*
So...if anyone could answer that question for me (to reassure me, if nothing else!) I'd be grateful. Thanks!
Translatable: No =(
