dr. horrible ; slipping

Hello! I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. Anyway, what I want to know is how to achieve this sort of "dirty" look that's so popular:

I'm guessing it's some kind of texture/brush. If anyone could point me in the direction of where to find a texture like that (both the dots and the squiggle brush thing), I'd be really grateful. Thanks!

I'm looking for tutorials that'll allow me to make some icons that look natural, but still nice. Basically that'll allow me to enchance the colours of an image and get it looking pretty spectacular, without turning it purple or something like that.

I use both Photoshop and PSP.

Anyone know of any good tutorials like this?

Question.

I'm having an issue figuring out how to do something in my Photoshop CS2 while making an icon.

Here is the situation:

I'm making an icon and it has several layers, one of which is a selective coloring layer. I want to be able to erase only part of the selective coloring layer on the icon (it's making a certain part of the image look too bright). I know I used to be able to do this before, but now for some reason it isn't working. Formerly, I would just click on the selective coloring (or other) layer, then use the eraser tool on the part of the image I wanted to erase. However now it is no longer working.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Is it something to do with my settings in CS2? I just can't figure it out. Does anyone have an idea?

Eyedropper

Hello :3

A while ago I asked this question and didn't get a reply, and my horrid searching skills have kept me from finding this in the memories because I KNOW this has been asked before.

My eyedropper randomly started replacing the background color whenever I use it - and I usually put a color I'm trying to keep [to use for later, for example] in the background. It's happened before, but remedied itself [or I did something without realizing it] but now it won't stop replacing the background color when I use the eyedropper tool. It's not really a big deal, but it's kind of annoying.

If anyone can tell me how to fix this, I would be very much appreciative :3

PS CS Question.

I've just moved from a PC to a Mac and from PS7 to PS CS2 and I've a question about the look of PS CS. Instead of having the grey workspace background it's just got the toolbars, which is fine I guess but when I've got frames/firefox windows open behind it it's very distracting is there anyway to change this?

I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips or tutorials on how to give this icon more colour and to make it more interesting?
I have looked around the archives but haven't really found anything that hasn't made it turn a darker sort of yellow colour.
any help would be appreciated.

Helloo.

Hi, I use PS CS2.

I'm trying to make a banner and everytime I copy and paste the picture into the banner canvas, it pastes the picture black and white. Anyone know why and how to fix this?
Thank you so much!
