10 Things I Hate About You

(no subject)

Sorry if this is a stupid question...
I'm kind of new to icon making and I'd LOVE to use all these great tutorials on here, but I notice a lot of talk about "selective coloring."  I read the thing in the archives, but my question is: is there a way to do this in PSP?  PSPX to be more specidic.
Thanks for the help!

Freeware animation program for Windows?

I want to animate a couple text icons I made and was wondering if anyone knew of a good freeware animation program for Windows? Basically what I'm looking for is a Windows-based program that will allow me to animate about 2-3 frames, set the speed between frame transitions, has a few basic transition effects like motion blur and fade, and won't take up too much space on my computer.

I know there is ImageReady, Animation Shop (which I've had a free trial of before), and Ulead but I'd never use the program enough to warrant paying for the full version. I tried Googling, but I'd like to hear from people who may have used these types of programs before so I don't end up downloading something that's useless or damages my computer. And I checked out GIMP, but I'd have to download the main program and THEN all the plug-ins for animation which will be 20+ MB. I'll do it if I have to, but I was hoping somebody here might be able to suggest something better.

Font problem

I'm not sure if anybody will be able to help with this, although I'm hoping you will as it's annoying me, but I'm having a problem with some of my fonts. I use Photoshop CS3 (I also have PSPX on the computer) and recently I downloaded some fonts and installed them into the Fonts folder in the Windows file on my hard drive but when I went to use one of them on an icon earlier they're not showing up in PS.

Since I have downloaded/installed them I have restarted my computer, before when I have had this problem I have had to open PSP and then when I open PS again they'll show up in there but it hasn't happened this time so has anybody got any ideas please?

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Solved, thanks dreamingkitty!!

New Photoshop CS User

I've used PSP for years now and I just recently switched over to Photoshop CS. In PSP I could make icons smooth by sharpening them and then using the soften tool to soften the skin.

I'm having trouble finding something like that in PS. Is there anyway I can soften the faces and such on icons after I've sharpened them, or just a way to smooth them out when they're pixely?

The Way I Make Icons

I made a tutorial/essay on the way I make icons.

It's long and it's not a step by step. It just shows you the way I color and crop my icons.
If you are interested, just click right here. Who knows, you might even find it interesting!

Made in: Photoshop CS2
Made for: Photoshop
Level: Intermediate

I will be using examples from this batch of Harry Potter icons.
