skin retouching w/o the blur...

...was wondering if anyone has ever done a tutorial for retouching/smoothing out skin without losing the texture. i sometimes use the surface filter on one layer and the highpass on another, put sometimes i see people actually using a texture to give the impression of not-so-doctored-skin. i hope you get the gist of what i mean...bluesuzanne has the most gorgeous art work i've ever seen and it seems to me she uses an extra layer of texture to make the subject's skin "pop out" if you will...

i know i'm rambling but hopefully you can help =D

Photoshop is a Pain

It's been a while since I've made any icons (years maybe), but I've run into a problem I think I used to fix with a border but is now causing me problems. I use Photoshop CS3 and whenever I resize my image down to 100x100 I get this little 1px line around the image that is slightly transparent. Needless to say I don't know what to do about it. Any help would be appreciated, a reference picture under the cut.

small fonts.

I'm not sure if this is allowed here, but I want to ask:

I'm using PS CS3 for quite a while & I recently just installed some new fonts. However when I try to use them, ALL OF MY FONTS at size 20 or so, appear very tiny [Note: They are NOT pixel fonts.].
The only thing I can do to make them visible is to increase the size to 800 & above.
I'm wondering what I can do to solve this problem, because when I installed my fonts like I did in PS Elements, the fonts works perfectly well :/

Thanks in advance.
