Font help

I'm really hoping you guys can help, 'cause I'm getting really frustrated!

In my font viewer (both the default that comes with my Mac & FontExplorer), punctuation marks within a font display correctly:

See?

But for some reason, Photoshop is being stupid and displaying some punctuation marks incorrectly, like this:

It's not just Century Gothic, but others as well. How can I stop it from doing this?

Also, specifically when using Century Gothic, the period, exclamation point, quesiton mark, semi-colon, comma, and colon all display normally. But when using apostrophes and smart quotes, it displays incorrectly. Why??

Textures won't open

I'm having an issue with Photoshop. I use PS7 and for some reason it's not letting me open a bunch of textures I just downloaded and some I've had for a long time now. The error I get says:

Could not open
[insert file name here]
because the file-format module cannot parse the file.

Can someone please help me figure out what's going on?

ETA: I closed and re-opened Photoshop and it seems to be working now, but it would be helpful to know what this error meant incase it happens again in the future.
