Go from to
Basic knowledge of Photoshop tools.

I started with this:
(I encourage using your own images and base. For a cropping tutorial see here for instructions. Just stop after you sized it to 100x100

Now I made a New Layer Layer>New...>Layer...
A window should pop up click okay.

Now to make the diagonal blinds effect Go Here
The tutorial is in the first comment :)
Now switch your Bucket Fill: from Foreground to Pattern and select your new diagonal pattern.
There's a catch though. You have to make a new color for each.
So I made a the pattern in #C34673
Then I filled the empty layer.

Ew, too much line!
So Duplicate the base Layer.
Move it so that it's on top of all the layers.

Set it to: Lighten
Opacity: 60

There we go :)

Next we add a nice pink gradient.

I don't know who I snagged it from sorry, but please tell me if you know.

Set that to: Lighten
Opacity: 100%

Duplicate your base again.
Put that on top of all the layers.

Set to: Soft Light
Opacity: 100%

Add a nice light Texture like this one:

From colorfilter found here

Set it to: Screen
Opacity: 100%

Now make go to Layer>New...>Layer...
Press okay.
Change your Bucket Fill to: Foreground
Fill the new layer with #C34673

Take your Rectangle Select Tool
Set it to:
Style: Fixed Size
Width: 96 px
Height: 96 px
Note: You'll have to move it so that you have an even amount of pixels on all four sides.

Hit BackSpace to Clear the Selection and you should have your border.

To Put it all together go to Layer>Flatten Image
And you're done!

You can add text or brushes if you want :)

Comments and suggestions welcomed.
Icon is up for grabs :) Just credit me.

Thanks so much for this great tutorial! I love how it looks. :D

I only had one problem and that was getting the border to work. Im really new at this, just started yesterday, lol, so if you could maybe explain how to get the border on, that would be great.

Here's what I have so far..

Hm...
I do find it hard to explain the border...
Where exactly do you have trouble?
That could help me explain.

Well after I type in the size and everything, I still have that dotted line around the edges. I dont know how to get rid of the dotted line so that I can see the border. I've tried clicking enter, but it didn't work. Maybe I'm just stupid? lol.

No you're not stupid!
I forgot to mention to hit backspace to clear the selected area.
That should open up the spot so you could see the border.
I think I'll go edit that in :)

when im making borders for 100 x 100 icon, I crate a new layer > then take the color that I want to use and flood fill > the I take my eraser tool, set it as a square with a hardness of 100 > if I want a 1px border I erase with a 98px square, if I want a 2px border I erase with a 96px square etc. Tada!
