making bad caps look good.

Anyone have any methods/theories/magical incantations to improving the look of lower quality screencaps? I know there's only so much one can do with less than high quality images, but I was just curious if anyone has some method that works for them.

Specifically, I'm trying to make this into an icon, but the graininess just kills me, and I'm not savy enough with Photoshop CS2 to fudge with it properly.

Thanks.

you can majorly blur the skin and background (if need be). Either with smart blur or manually (the first part of my tutorial here should help if you choose the manual route). Good luck!

Try sharpening it and then take the blur tool to her skin.

I use PSP but it should work w/PS too.

-Duplicate the image, screen that layer
-Next make a new raster layer & fill it with a very light gray, burn that layer
-If it's not light enough you can always duplicate & screen the original more than once
-If it needs to be sharpend you can either just sharpen the original layer or merge all the layers & then sharpen

Woot! It's Kelsey! :)

Yeah, What I usually do is take the orignal screen cap, sharpen it, and then take the smudge tool on a low opacity and a small size to smooth out the face. Then crop just a lil over the icon resolution and then resize it down to the 100x100.

Then you can play with the brightness/contrast (or if you know curves, playing with that) to make her pop.

Hell yes it's Kelsey. I have to try and make 'Lightspeed' represent at pr_icontest.

(PS I <3 your Udonna icon big time.)

Too bad "Joel" doesn't start with a "K," lol. And thanks a bunch!

Here's an example of a pic I had to work on using the same stuff I said above:
