Greetings

Hello everyone, I'd like to introduce myself. I just recently started making icons, and I've only played around with one seriously but had a lot of fun doing it. My first attempt is below.

I do have a question. I looked about the Tutorials but can't find what I'm looking for. I've seen some icons that have the corners cropped out ( and transparent ) or transparent cuts and lines in the corners. I was wondering how to do this.. if anyone cares to explain or send a link I would be grateful.

I use Photoshop 7.
