Icon Animation Inquiry

This is somewhat in relation to hauteurs's question...

Hi! The only thing I haven't ventured out into doing is animated icons using screencaps from DVDs. I haven't found an extraction program that works with Mac (and by that I meant something along the lines of VirtualDub). This is my first inquiry and I apologize in advance if this was addressed too many times.
