lornyloo for PSI've had a few requests for Icon Tutorials so thought I'd have a go at making one, this is a pretty simple one on
how to turn this:
into this:
Please give some fedback on how clear/easy/helpful you think the tutorial is so I know what to change for next time. Also what kinda of tutorials would people most be intrested in? (Give examples of specific icons if possible)
Step 1: Crop the picture to size 100x100px
I chose to focus right in on Sam's face so didn't leave any of her body or the background in.Step 2: Go to image---adjust---curves move the line so input =96 and output=152
Step3: Go to image---adjust---brightness/contrast set brightness=-3 and contrast=52
Step 4: Duplicate the layer. I thought her face was too red so I went to image---adjust---variations and selected more yellow. I then set this layers opacity to Soft light 66%
I flattened these 2 layersStep5: I duplicated the layer and sharpened the top layer (filter---sharpen---sharpen)
Step 6: On the sharpened layer I used a small blur tool set on 34% pressure, and carefully blurred Sam's face, being careful to follow the direction of the skin where possible and to avoide all major lines and features.
I flattened the 2 layersStep 7: I duplicated the layer and set the top layer on gaussian blur 1.1 (filter---blur---gaussian blur) I set this layer to 53% then erased the blured areas from her face and hair
This doesn't make a lot of different but it makes the image seem slightly clearer. I then flattened the layerStep 8: I duplicated the layer and because I felt it was still too red I went to image---adjust---variations and selected lighter, I then set this layer to Screen 52%
and flattened the layerStep 9: I then set my foreground colour to 57583A and my background colour to D9F6CD. I duplicated the layer and then went to image---adjust---gradient map (Sam's face should be the lighter green... if it's not click 'reverse'). I then set this layer to hard light at 57%
Step 10: I switched the blur brush to the sharpen brush and at 10% i ran a few streaks through Sam's hair and on her eyes and lips
