Jane Eyre Tutorial

Hey, all! I've been lurking for a while, and finally decided to try writing my own tutorial. It's my first, so if it's confusing at all, PLEASE let me know! ^.^

We'll be going from Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting to Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting in Photoshop 7.

I'm almost positive it's translatable. ^.^

1

Crop your base to 100x100.

2

Duplicate your base twice. Set the first to screen at 100% and the second to soft light at 100%.

3

On both the screen layer and the soft layer, carefully use the blur tool to smooth your subject's skin. In the screen layer, I also blurred the background, making sure not to blur the edges around the subject. Don't want it to be too muddy and blurry!

4

On the screen layer, sharpen her lips and eyes.

Place this gradient (made by me~) on top of everything, on soft light 100%.

Place this texture (again, made by me, using the lovely linalinsicons 's tutorial) on top of everything and set to Overlay at 100%. Carefully erase, with a 72% opacity eraser, the part covering your subject. We still want some of the texture on top of her, though, so don't erase it completely.

7

Duplicate your screen layer and bring it to the top. Desaturate it. Erase all the background, leaving only your subject. If you want, you can play with levels to increase the contrast. Set this layer to hard light at 100%.

Place this texture (made by me, yet again) on top and set it to soft light at 100%.

9

Create a new layer, and fill it with #091027. Set this layer to exclusion at 100%.

Using the text tool, write in whatever you want your icon to say. I used the fonts Beyond Wonderland and Times New Roman. If you want a border around the text, merge the text together (if it's on separate layers) and right click on the layer. Select Blending Options, and go down to "Stroke." Change the color to something that suits your icon, and decrease the width to 1 px.

11

I also added some tiny text along the bottom, using Times New Roman at 3pt.

12

Add a 1 px border around your icon, and you're done!

I'd love to see any icons people make with this. ^.^
