two tutorials!

First tutorial
Lily Cole
Photoshop 7 - not translatable
Involves curves, selective coloring, and levels
Level: Amateur

Preview:

1.) start with your base. Now for me, I start with a large image and resized it once I finished, but you can start with 100x100 base if you'd like. if the image is dark, screen it.

2.) new h/s/l:

master:
0, 35, 0

you can skip this step if your base is already saturated enough

3.) new selective coloring

reds:
-100, 0, 100, 0

yellows:
-100, 0, -50, 0

cyans:
100, 0, -100, 0

blues:
100, 0, -100, 0

magentas:
-100, 100, -100, 0

neutrals:
43, 0, -20, -15

3.) new selective coloring

reds:
0, 0, 15, 0

neutrals:
10, 0, 5, 0

4.) new color fill layer (#3E1A1A) on exclusion %100
5.) new curves:

blue:
point one: 77, 39
point two: 124, 145

6.) new levels layer:

red:
0, 0.82, 255

green:
0, 0.94, 255

blue:
0, 1.38, 255

set this layer to darken

6.) duplicate your base, drag it to the top and set to color %50
7.) new brightness/contrast layer:

brightness: -10
contrast: 25

and you're done!

now this tutorial is a little more tricky because it involves two colorings, so what your gonna do is open up two windows, both with your base in them. I'll split them up in parts.

part I:

1.) start with your base
2.) new h/s/l layer:

master
0, 35, 0

3.) new color fill (#FF7800) set to luminosity %30
4.) new selective coloring:

reds:
-100, 30, 45, -5

yellows:
100, 15, -25, 39

neutrals:
45, -10, -25, -10

5.) new color fill (#300D0D) set to exclusion 60%
6.) new selective coloring:

reds:
-30, 0, 50, -25

neutrals:
5, 15, 30, -25

7.) duplicate your base, drag to the top, and set it to soft light %50

well now that's done, let's move on to part two, where you should have another window with your original base open.

part II

1.) so we got our base already so that obviously step one is to have that.
2.) new h/s/l layer:

master
0, 35, 0

NOTE: as you can figure out, I use this h/s/l layer A LOT

3.) new selective coloring

reds:
-100, 100, 0, 0

yellows:
-100, 0, -50, 0

cyans:
100, 0, -100, 0

blues:
100, 0, -100, 0

magentas:
-100, 100, -100, 0

neutrals:
50, 0, 50, -15

4.) new selective coloring

reds:
-100, 0, 100, 0

yellows:
-100, 0, -50, 0

cyans:
100, 0, -100, 0

blues:
100, 0, -100, 0

magentas:
-100, 100, -100, 0

neutrals:
43, 0, -20, -15

4.) okay now this is where our part one comes in! go back to your first icon (part I), copy merged (ctrl+shift+c), go back to part II, and paste it (ctrl+v). set this to color %50

5.) new color fill (#000014) set to exclusion %100
6.) new selective coloring:

reds:
-100, 0, 0, 0

yellows:
-100, 0, 0, 0

neutrals:
-30, 0, 20, -11

and you're done!

you can find more examples of both of these colorings at high_v_theory

if you have any questions, feel free to ask =D
